Dr.B. Vijayakumar is currently working as an Asst. Professor for Tamil language in the Department of Modern Indian Languages and Literary Studies, Gauhati University. He has studied MA (Tamil), MA.(Linguistics) M.Phil., Ph.D. and Diploma in Hindi, Assamese.
Prior to join Gauhati University he was working as a Lecturer cum JRP at Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore. He has authored books, dictionaries, Second language learning materials, translation works etc,. He has written many articles and participated International and national seminars.
For his academic contribution, he has received Gold Medal, Dr. Radhakrishnan Award, and Tamil Sudar Award from the Govt. of Tamilnadu and Thirukkural Academy from Malaysia respectively.
